Message from the Director
April 2011 heralds the launch of the newly
created website for Christian Council of Tanzania (CCT) - Morogoro Women Training Centre
(MWTC). It is our goal to use this website as a means to
show our Partners, and the world, the important work that the Centre is
doing.
As we Welcome 2011, we are happy that the year holds new promises for
the Centre. We are already assured of funding to run 5 different courses
between now and December, 2011.
In the area of agriculture, and with support from Church of Sweden, we hope to
increase farm production by increasing the acreage under cultivation and
planting a bigger garden both in size as well as in the variety of
vegetables to be grown. There are also plans to increase the number of
fruit trees to be planted such as: mangoes, limes, tangerines, avocado
and passion fruit. The aim is to increase the Centre’s income through
increased crop production.
This year will see the introduction of the first Maternal Health Care
Worker (MHCW) course at the MWTC. This course, co-sponsored by the
United Church of Canada and the Swiss Support Association for Women
Training, will address the training needs and ‘professionalization’ of
current Traditional Birth Assistants. The course will provide a full
11 days of training at the Morogoro Women Training Centre Campus.
Tanzanian Ministry of Health staff will provide facilitators to conduct
the six day, ‘official’ Traditional Birth Assistant Course. MWTC will
facilitate and provide trainers for five additional days of training to
enhance the Maternal Health Care Workers’ skill set. Topics to will
include:
- Emergency First Aid and CPR Training
- Diet and Nutrition Training
- Gender Violence and anti-FGM
In the areas of catering, accommodation and hall rental, we have already received reservations from some of our patrons intending to use our services for meetings, training and conferences. We are hopeful that other patrons will book reservations with us too. This state of affairs is a good sign that 2011 will be a fruitful and eventful year for the MWTC.
What is the CCT
The Christian Council of Tanzania (CCT)
is an Ecumenical Church Organization formed by fifteen Protestant
Churches and fourteen Para-Church Organizations / Ministries.
The MWTC is a Self-Accounting Unit of the CCT.
MWTC Objectives
The Centre‘s objective is to develop and
deliver courses to further the important roles of women in society
with the issues they face in enhancing their and their families
lives as well as those of their community. Women from throughout
Tanzania, primarily from rural areas, attend the courses and
represent varied religious, ethnic and social backgrounds. They are
already recognized leaders in their communities. The courses have a
practical focus in order to be useful in their daily lives.
